Meeting Minutes 01/08/08

 

Attendance:  26 members  Don Guse, John Wilde, Larry Behr, Earl Bergin, Mel Lulow, Flare Fredricksen, Dan Tongen, Bill Balke, John Grothe, DuWayne Wieck, Harlan Harris, George Helpap, Jim Stahlman, Gene Blindauer, Dave Hanson, George Degner, Nathan Gunnlaugsson, Bill Smith, Ken Deicher, Bob Steindorf, Gene Ramsey, Don Pohlman, Ed Schroeder, David Niedfeldt, Mark Degner, and Konrad Kaczkowski

 

Meeting opened at 1900 Hrs with prayer led by Flare Fredricksen, Commander Degner along with 1st Vice Dave Niedfeldt conducted the POW/MIA empty chair ceremony, and Commander Degner led the pledge to the Flag and the reading of the American Legion Preamble.

 

Membership: Ed Schroeder introduced new member DuWayne Wieck US Army. Give a warm welcome to DuWayne to the largest service organization in the nation. Ed also reported 2 transfers from Colorado Sean and Laurie Morgan, now living in Plymouth.

 

Oratorical: Ed Schroeder reported the Plymouth Post has the Only participants in the County wide American Legion Oratorical contest with 4 students. They will compete on 01/16/08 at our Post as part of the County meeting. The winner will advance to the 2nd District Competition in Lomira on January 19th.

 

House Committee: Larry Behr gave a laundry list of items in need of repair in the current vacant apartment. The House Committee is asking that anyone with carpentry skills Please contact any one of the House Committee members, Larry Behr, Gene Blindauer or Mark Provencher.

 

Badger Boys State: Don Tongen reported that if the Post wants to continue sending 2 high school boys it will cost the Post $470.00. Don made a motion to continue this project seconded by Gene Blindauer, motion carried by voice vote. Don also reported that it is possible to send an additional boy, and that the Post could be put on a waiting list. Flare made a motion the Post be put on that list seconded by Larry Behr, motion carried by voice vote.

 

Electrical Bids: Commander Degner reported that CSC Electrical will submit separate bids for work on the apartments and clubhouse as will Bill’s Electric.

 

Service Officer: John Grothe reported Joe Benauer, Zane Hartle and Jim Preder on sick call. Taps for Harold Davidson passed away December 7th in Beaver Dam.

 

Correspondence: Thank you from Jim Riesenberg County Veterans Service Officer for the Post’s donation of $100.00 to the County Veterans Christmas Cheer, to assist Veterans in need at Christmas. Thank You from the Activity Director of Rocky Knoll for the Veterans Day ceremony, thanks to the efforts of Flare Fredricksen.

 

Historian: Commander Degner appointed Ken Deicher Post Historian. Ken had a display of past news articles about the Post’s activities.

 

Post Website: Commander Degner reported that one of our members Jim Faller has indicated he would volunteer his time to set up a website for the Post. There was an estimated cost of about $60.00. There was discussion, and hopefully Jim will be at a meeting to answer questions. Larry Behr made a motion to table the idea of website until Jim can answer these questions, seconded by Dave Niedfeldt, motion carried by voice vote.

 

Commander Degner asked anyone interested in assisting him with a Junior American Legion shooting sports program to contact him.

 

2nd District 4 Chaplains Observance to be held at the Horicon Post on February 2nd. Anyone interested in attending contact Commander Degner.

 

Meeting closed at 20:10 Hrs with prayer led by Flare Fredricksen, in memory of the 9 crew members of a US Army air ambulance that died in a crash of their helicopter on January 8th , 2004 in Iraq.
